CATWORT / CATNIP - Nepeta Cataria - 30 Seeds
Catnip is much more than just a "kitty drug." It belongs to the mint family (Lamiaceae) and has been used for centuries by humans for its medicinal properties. While most famous for its effects on cats, different varieties offer unique scents and garden benefits.
Its not just for house catslions, tigers, leopards, and cougars can also exhibit the same playful, euphoric reactions.
IThe way a cat interacts with the plant changes the effect. Inhaling the scent of the oil nepetalactone usually acts as a stimulant (playfulness), while ingesting it often acts as a sedative (sleepiness).
Genetic "Immunity": About 30% of cats are genetically immune to catnip and will show no reaction at all.
Kittens typically don't react to catnip until they are between 3 and 6 months old.
Research suggests catnip oil is effective at repelling mosquitoes.
While it makes cats hyper, a tea made from catnip leaves has a calming, sedative effect on humans and is traditionally used to treat anxiety and insomnia.
Sun & Soil: Thrives in full sun and well-drained, even poor-quality soil.
Pest Control: Naturally repels aphids, potato beetles, and even rats.
