This is a German variety of high quality onions. Another name: Bamberger.

This is an old heirloom variety of onion, originally from Franconia (German: Franken), a historical region in southeastern Germany. 

Appearance

The onion has a unique oblong shape. Fully ripened bulbs are elongated, pear-shaped, with light brown, strong husks. Their weight is up to 100 g.  The pulp is white, juicy, with an excellent aroma. The taste is slightly spicy. This oblong onion is sweeter than most other onions. Very convenient to cut it into beautiful rings. The leaves are dark green in colour.  It is ideal for pickling as well as cooking. This onion variety is suitable for long-term storage. 

Birnformige onions are easy to grow &  can withstand temperatures down to  -15 degrees.
