PINK PALERA PRICKLY PEAR / BARBARY FIG - Opuntia ficus-indica - 20 Seeds

The Palera is a widely cultivated plant known for its edible pads and sweet, pear-shaped fruits. 
Aztec Legend: The prickly pear is central to the founding of Mexico City. According to legend, the Aztecs were told to build their city where they saw an eagle perched on a cactus eating a snakea scene depicted on the Mexican Flag today.
Movable Flowers: The cactus has thigmotactic anthers. If you gently touch the center of an open flower, the stamens will actually curl inward toward your finger.
Desert Water Tank: In times of severe drought, the moisture-rich pads can be burned to remove spines and fed to livestock, providing both food and hydration. 
Edible Parts:
Nopales (Pads): Often grilled, boiled, or sautéed. They have a texture similar to green beans or okra.
Tunas (Fruit): Juicy and sweet with a flavor often compared to watermelon or strawberry.
Nutrition: High in fiber, vitamin C, magnesium, and antioxidants. It is traditionally used in Mexican folk medicine to help manage blood sugar.
